Lucky Powerball lottery player in North Carolina wins $209 million jackpot

ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. (WBTV) – A lucky person in North Carolina netted a massive $209.3 million prize when they won the Jan. 21 Powerball lottery drawing.

The winning ticket was bought from the West 10th Mart in Roanoke Rapids, up near the Virginia border.

The ticket match all five white balls, plus the Powerball. The winning numbers were 11, 26, 27, 53 and 55, with a Powerball of 12.

Whenever the big winner goes to claim their prize, they will have an option to take the full $209.3 million jackpot through 30 annual payments, or a lump sum of $95.3 million.

“We want to say a big congratulations to the lucky winner on this life-changing moment,” the NC Education Lottery CEO said in a news release. “We are thrilled that the win occurred in North Carolina … We can’t wait to meet the big winner so we can celebrate this momentous occasion with them.”

The Wednesday, Jan. 21 drawing marked the sixth time the jackpot-winning Powerball ticket has been sold in North Carolina.

Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. EST.
