Ipswich ‘still have long way to go’ – McKennapublished at 19:47 BST

Middlesbrough v Ipswich (20:00 BST)

They might be heading into tonight’s game on a five-match unbeaten run but Ipswich head coach Kieran McKenna believes his side are still far from the finished article.

Having started the season without a win from their opening four Championship games, the Suffolk side know victory on Teesside this evening would push them into third place before the weekend fixtures.

“There’s been some promising signs, but in terms of being a really complete group in all aspects, I think we’ve still got a long way to go,” McKenna told BBC Radio Suffolk.

“Are there phases of games or periods when we’ve been a front-footed, exciting, attacking team? Yes. Are there periods of great spirit and togetherness in the team? Yes.

“But it takes longer for a team to show those things consistently, week after week, two games a week in all sorts of conditions, on good days and bad days – that takes longer to build.”

All this might be sending a warning to the rest of the division – what happens when Ipswich really do put everything together?
