Patty García has no blood relation to the Illinois’ 4th District congressman.

She will have to start off her campaign by addressing criticism for last-minute maneuvering that led to her landing on the ballot.

Congressman “Chuy” García is not seeking reelection, and he told ABC7 the decision came from health concerts and family obligations.

He said he struggled with the decision not to run suddenly, but it’s his move just before the filing deadline that’s leading some to accuse him of playing politics.

He filed petitions with the Illinois State Board of Elections to run for his seat on October 27.

Days later, Patty García did the same, just before the deadline.
