Iceland worker whips customer as he yells ‘empty your bag’ in huge checkout row

The incident began with a verbal exchange between a female customer and a male member of staff but soon became physical after the worker demanded she ’empty her bag’ at the self-checkout till

This is the moment a supermarket worker whips a woman while yelling “empty your bag” in a charged row.

The clip was shared on X, formerly Twitter, by the London and UK Street News account, which captioned it: “Don’t mess with Iceland.” The incident began with a verbal exchange between the female customer and the male member of staff.

Moments later, the man strikes the woman with what appears to be a whip. He is heard shouting, “empty your bag” and hits her after she refused.

The customer shouted back: “Oh my god that is assault. I am phoning the police. Can you phone the police please.”

As she pleaded for someone to call the cops, she tried to exit the store but the same employee blocked her route. He strikes her again while demanding, “empty your bag”.

The enraged customer then shouted: ““Who the f*** do you think you are? My kid’s outside waiting to go to school.

“How dare you. Who the hell do you think you are hitting a customer in a shop?”

The man is also heard saying, “you can’t leave the shop now. You have to wait until the police get here.”

The shocking footage was captured at the checkout tills of the Iceland store in Chapel Market, London.

A spokesperson for the Met said: “Police were called at 08.07hrs on Wednesday, 15 October to reports of shoplifting at a supermarket on Chapel Market, Islington.

“Subsequently, we received a call from a member of the public claiming they had been assaulted. Nothing was reported stolen and no arrests have been made.

“Enquiries continue. If you have any information that could help police please contact 101 quoting CAD 1378/15OCT.”

It comes after Iceland said they would pay customers to grass up shoplifters back in August. Store bosses will put a £1 reward on the bonus card of every shopper who tips off staff about a shelf-raider.

It is the move by Iceland’s executive chairman Richard Walker to try to combat Britain’s ‘out of control’ shoplifting epidemic with three thefts carried out every minute in the year to March. He told the Daily Star he was willing to upset every ‘liberal lawyer’ and ‘human rights group’ by deploying a raft of weapons to safeguard his staff from ‘violent’ organised criminals targeting the nations’ stores.
