Former Raiders CB takes social media jab after making game-winning play for Dolphins

The Las Vegas Raiders made sweeping changes at cornerback this offseason after hiring Pete Carroll as head coach. Carroll has a certain prototype at cornerback, preferring bigger, longer players. One of the defenders who did not fit that mold was Jack Jones, who was inherited from the previous regime.

Jones was claimed off waivers by the Raiders when Antonio Pierce was the head coach. In 19 starts over one-plus campaigns in Las Vegas, Jones registered five interceptions, three returned for touchdowns, 20 pass breakups, and 94 tackles. Off-field behavioral issues have been a recurring problem, and the Raiders cut him in April after failing to find a trade partner.

Jones signed with the Miami Dolphins. He’s been their best cornerback this season. On Sunday, after making a game-clinching interception in a Week 11 win over the Washington Commanders in Madrid, Spain, Jones took a social media jab at the Raiders, claiming they should have kept him.

Jones has totaled 557 snaps for the Dolphins this season. Pro Football Focus has assigned him an overall grade of 58.9, but that will probably improve once Sunday’s grade is updated. Meanwhile the Raiders’ revamped cornerback room found a gem in Eric Stokes, but has struggled to find an appropriate partner for him.

Jones had likely been waiting to take that pot-shot at the Raiders. He found the right opportunity after picking off Marcus Mariota.
