Championship leaders St Johnstone have made an offer to snap up Hamilton Accies star striker Oli Shaw, Lanarkshire Live Sport can reveal.

The top scorer in League One has been attracting interest after Accies admitted they would need to off-load their senior players in a bid to fend off administration.

And it is understood the Perth outfit have made an offer in the region of £30,000 as Saints boss Simo Valakari tries to lure one of Hamilton’s highest paid stars away from Lanarkshire.

Lanarkshire Live Sport is unable to obtain comment from Hamilton Accies themselves after new owner Rob Edwards banned the publication and the local newspaper, The Hamilton Advertiser , following revealations about the extent of the club’s wage bill last week. St Johnstone have been unavailable for comment this morning.

It is believed Accies have knocked back Saints’ bid for the 27-year-old and are holding out for more.

The former Hibs striker, whose contract is up at the end of next season, has scored 16 goals in 26 appearances for Accies this season.

Shaw hasn’t played for Accies since December 13 and Lanarkshire Live Sport last week reported St Johnstone’s interest.

In the last fortnight, a whole host of senior stars have been offloaded to cut costs. If Shaw exits, he will follow in the footsteps of former team-mates Jamie Smith, Cale Loughrey, Connor Smith, Ben Williamson, club captain Scott Robinson and Hearts loanee Bobby McLuckie.

Accies are due to face Cove Rangers tomorrow at Broadwood in League One, in what is a huge game for the club in the battle at the bottom end of the table.

Meanwhile, Accies have just announced the signing of Gregor Crookston on loan from Hearts. The 19-year-old right back has joined on a deal until the end of the season.

On the signing, Accies boss Darian MacKinnon said: “I’m glad to get the deal done for Gregor and I thank Hearts for their cooperation in the last few weeks.

“Gregor has been in training with the squad this week, he’s got stuck in and offers us some depth across the team.”
