Day five of manhunt continues for Craven County murder suspect

CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – The search for a man who is suspected of murdering his grandmother and stabbing a deputy has stretched into its fifth day.

On Sunday, Craven County Sheriff’s office said multiple local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies continue to search day and night for Connelly by ground and air.

Connelly is believed to be on foot in the area of the Craven and Beaufort County line based on physical sightings from Friday, according to the sheriff’s office. They say he is possibly moving north and using fields and woods to avoid detection.

Connelly was last seen wearing a black long sleeve shirt and camo style pants.

He is wanted for killing his grandmother, Patricia Lopedote, at her home outside of Havelock last Saturday, and for stabbing a Craven County deputy who confronted him Wednesday night in Vanceboro.

The sheriff’s office says on Friday, Connelly was seen on a trail camera in the area of 10000 U.S. 17 Highway, Vanceboro.

The search moved into Beaufort County on CC Road after another possible sighting, but Connelly was not located.

The sheriff’s office is asking citizens in the area to check their surveillance systems and any trail cameras they have for images of Connelly.

The U.S Marshals have joined Craven County Crime Stoppers in offering a reward for information that leads to Connelly’s capture.

The sheriff’s office urges people to not approach Connelly and immediately call 911 if you see him.
