Preview

Premiership derby weekend was last week, but the rugby rivalry between Leicester and Bath goes back a long way and can be just as intense as any local dust-up.

Champions Bath are setting a blistering pace at the top of the table with three bonus-point wins out of three and they have the most dynamic attack, racking up a tally of 113 points and 16 tries.

Leicester have just one win to their name although it did come at home where they fought back from 19-0 down to overcome Harlequins 29-19.

There were plenty of good signs in a bonus-point defeat at Northampton last week too, although they shipped five tries for the second time this season.

That has to be a concern against a side as dangerous in attack as Bath, who will be conducted again by fly-half Finn Russell, who hit the ground running in his first outing of the season against Gloucester last week.

Wingers Henry Arundell and Tom de Glanville will clearly be a threat but the man to keep an eye on could be Santi Carreras, making his first start for Bath having come off the bench last week.

The Argentina international played mostly at fly-half for the Pumas over the weekend but he scored seven tries from full-back in a struggling Gloucester team last season and he looks to have the X factor to unlock Leicester at Welford Road.

In the later Premiership game Saracens will look to bounce back from defeat to Harlequins last week but it won’t be easy against Sale, who are one of the toughest sides to break down.

The Sharks are again pushing for a playoff berth and while they are broadly keeping pace with the rest of the top four in attack, their standout strength is in defence.

Sale’s total of 43 points along with six tries conceded is the lowest of any side and they are also a team who can look to match Sarries for physical power up front and at the breakdown. It could be Sarries’ day but a double-figure handicap looks big.
