Later this year, Gethin Jones will once again be starring in Cardiff’s pantomime as the Prince in the New Theatre’s production of Sleeping Beauty. In the months leading up to the big run of shows, the BBC Morning Live presenter is attempting to pack in as much practice as possible.
In an Instagram story posted on Monday, November 17, the presenter captioned a video saying “not often do I get embarrassed,” as he shared an update from his holiday in Tenerife.
In the video he went on to explain, that he was trying to practice for his upcoming pantomime whilst on a walk, and didn’t realise he had an audience of golfers. For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter.
Gethin said: “So, I can’t really practice my panto songs in my room because I’m quite loud, and I don’t think people would really appreciate that.
“So, I decided to come for a walk, and I thought it would be a good idea to walk up hill.
“I’ve walked from the coast up here and thought it would help with the breathing, and now I’m here it’s like I’ve got an audience of… well, I was going to say of one, but I have an audience of three mopeds and two cars actually.
“I’ve been blasting out a few tunes and I look to my right and I realise there’s a golf course/ driving range.
“One guy clapped, the others looked really angry at me.
“So, I’m going to have to move on from this spot. It was all going so well. “

The presenter will be starring in the New Theatre’s production of Sleeping Beauty from Saturday, December 6, until Sunday, January 4, 2026.
Gethin made his successful panto debut in the theatre’s Cinderella last year, alongside fellow presenters Owain Wyn Evans and Mike Doyle. All three will be returning once again to the stage to perform for audiences this winter.
The presenter is looking forward to this year’s show, which will hopefully act as a distraction during what could be a very hard holiday season after the passing of his father.
Gethin said he was relieved to be spending more time at home in Wales thanks to the panto. He said: “It was amazing being back amongst family.
“We had some sad news in the family over the summer – my dad passed away – so it’s even more poignant and nicer to be back this year.
“It’s the first Christmas without him and all that stuff so being around a little bit for mum and the nephews is really lovely and actually doing something that’s full of joy.
“Whatever’s going on at Christmas lots of people go through the same thing and there’s lots of hardships out there.
“But we always say that panto is that two and a half hours maybe [where] we just come sit and laugh about ridiculous things – you know, following a lovely little Christmas story, and maybe forgetting about the outside world for a couple of hours.
“So yeah I’m lucky I get to do it a couple times a day over Christmas. I do think panto is a little bit of an escapism for people.”
