Mark Ruffalo Returning For Season 2 Of HBO’s ‘Task’

Following the critical acclaim and massive success of season one, the HBO Original drama series, Task has been renewed for a second season with Emmy winner Mark Ruffalo set to return. From creator Brad Ingelsby the series has received wide acclaim for its gripping writing and directing and outstanding performances from its ensemble cast.

“We knew well in advance of its launch that we had a powerful drama series on our hands, but it has been so rewarding to witness the audience’s fervor and embrace of this show as it grew week after week,” said Francesca Orsi, EVP, HBO Programming, Head of HBO Drama Series and Films. “Rarely does a writer balance humanistic storytelling with intricate, explosive plotting but Brad Ingelsby is one of our industry’s greats and we have no doubt he will strike as profoundly and addictively once again in season two.”

Sources tell Deadline Ruffalo recently negotiated a new deal to reprise his role as Agent Brandis following the success of the first season. Ruffalo and Ingelsby recently discussed with Deadline how they were up for a second season and thought there was more to explore with a second season.

“We had such a good time,” Ingelsbly said. “Mark is the best to have on set and I love working with this guy. I would work with him as much as I … and I think we have … you know, there’s a lot of stories.”

Set in the working-class suburbs of Philadelphia, an FBI agent (Mark Ruffalo) heads a Task Force to put an end to a string of violent robberies led by an unsuspecting family man (Tom Pelphrey).

“We’ve been incredibly fortunate to have HBO’s unwavering support of Task from the very first script onwards, throughout production, and during their extraordinary launch of our first season to audiences. They are an unmatched creative home,” said Ingelsby. “On behalf of the entire Task team, in front of and behind the camera, I am honored and excited to get back to work on a second season of our show.”
