National Highways says, at 10.10am, that the M5 is closed in both directions between J18 Avonmouth and J19 Portbury due to an ongoing police incident.
A diversion route will be in place with National Highways telling motorists to plan their journey ahead if they are travelling to the area.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: “The M5 is closed in both directions between junctions 18 (Avonmouth) and 19 (Portbury) due to a welfare-related incident.
“Emergency services are at the scene, however there is significant congestion in the area.
“Motorists are advised to give extra time for their journey and seek alternative routes.
“We will provide updates as soon as we’re able to.”
