We may have had a very different Kev on Emmerdale, if at all, if one star had stuck by their consideration to turn the role down.
Chris Coghill has told The Mirror that when he was first offered the part, something about the role made him not want it initially. He learned the big news that Kev would at some point be killed off and possibly soon.
With that, actor Chris was unsure about taking the job as he wanted something that would last. That was until bosses told him exactly who Kev was and what “fun” could be had with the character, and Chris decided to go ahead with it.
Kev has since debuted as the secret husband of Robert Sugden who he met in prison. With Kev now in the village, there’s drama aplenty but also plenty of humour, while a big episode is on the way exploring Robert’s own time in prison.
It’s all this and more that encouraged Chris to take the role. He told us: “When I was offered it and I was told he dies I thought, I like Emmerdale and I’d like to be around for a bit, so I’d want to come and do something that had some potential longevity.

“But when I was told what the character was and I came in and was told they weren’t meeting anybody else I thought, actually this sounds like a right laugh.” This also appears to confirm Kev really is dying amid theories he is making it up.
It comes amid a new theory that Kev could be linked to newcomer Dylan. Amid huge standalone episodes being planned for characters linked to both Kev and Dylan, some fans are expecting some sort of a twist to unfold.
Dylan was introduced earlier this year, where it was revealed he was living on the streets and was estranged from his family. Fans now wonder, after months of speculating he’s a secret Dingle, whether he could be Kev’s son. A theory asked: “Is Dylan Kev’s son?”
A viewer responded: “I saw a tweet suggesting Dylan could be Kev’s son. I just feel like it could actually make me care about Dylan (who I don’t care for currently) and give Kev something to stick around for after Aaron/Robert’s ‘affair’ comes out.”

Another fan posted: “It could be interesting.” Others were quick to point out though that Kev has been in prison for years, with him saying in a scene that he hadn’t been out for a very long time – with fans noting he was likely locked up from 2002.
With Dylan a teenager it seems unlikely that he is the son of Kev. One fan commented: “Fred Kettle, who plays Dylan, was born in 2007, while Kev has been in prison since 2002. So I don’t think it’s very likely.”
Another fan agreed: “Problem is Kev has been in prison since 2002, so Dylan couldn’t be any younger than 23. So unless he was a sperm donor or something, I don’t see how that’s feasible.”
