Giants-Bears weather update: Snow in forecast for frigid showdown at Soldier Field

The Giants should prepare for a harsh day of winter weather when they face off against the Bears at Soldier Field. A cold front brings rain, snow and wind chills that could dip into the single digits (1 p.m. EST).

Fans looking to carpool should use caution as, by 8 a.m., conditions will feel as cold as 18 degrees, prompting weather officials to urge caution for vulnerable populations, including older adults, infants and those with sensitive medical conditions.

Officials recommend wearing a coat, hat, gloves and scarf for protection against the cold.

Snow flurries are possible during late morning and early afternoon hours. Despite actual temperatures reaching the upper 30s, brisk northwest winds of 22 to 23 mph will keep the wind chill in the low 20s. Gusts could reach 32 mph during this period.

While partly sunny skies are expected by late afternoon, the cold conditions will continue. Evening temperatures will drop to the low 30s but feel like the teens. By 11 p.m., the wind chill is forecast to reach 11 degrees with gusts as high as 35 mph. Additional flurries are possible in the late evening hours.

The Giants will be shorthanded for their Week 10 matchup, ruling out six players on their final injury report Friday. Most notably, kicker Graham Gano will miss the game with a herniated disc in his neck.

Gano said the disc is pressing against his spinal cord, causing significant pain that began intensifying earlier this week. The veteran kicker first felt discomfort last week but experienced severe pain after lifting weights on Monday.

Coach Brian Daboll indicated Younghoe Koo, signed to the practice squad Sept. 23, will likely handle kicking duties. “If he has to be the guy, he’ll be the guy,” Daboll said, adding he would “assume it’s going to be” Koo in that role.

Joining Gano on the inactive list are…

  • CB Paulson Adebo (knee)
  • WR Beaux Collins (neck)
  • DL Chauncey Golston (neck)
  • LB Darius Muasau (ankle)
  • C John Michael Schmitz (shin)

Victor Dimukeje (shoulder) is doubtful, while OT Jermaine Eluemunor (pec) and S Jevón Holland (knee) are questionable.

The Giants received positive injury news as CB Cor’Dale Flott cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol and is expected to be available.
