Hilary Duff’s Return to Music Is ‘All for’ the Gays

And who is surprised to hear that? LGBT ally Hilary Duff is returning to music, and everyone is excited about her next Metamorphosis, especially her queer fans. When she was told by Variety at Vogue World how excited her gay fans are for her return to music, she said, “You know it’s all for them. It’s just to impress them.” Duff has been a gay icon for a really long time — in 2008, she was the spokesperson for a campaign that called for the end of using the word “gay” as derogatory language. Duff starred in a commercial to share the message, one that now gets memed on, but at the time directly addressed the homophobic language that was common among young people and got the point across — calling something that was lame “gay” when you’re “wearing a skirt as a top”? Ouch. And double ouch when the burn is coming from one of Disney Channel’s biggest stars.

Duff’s last album, Breathe In Breathe Out, was released ten years ago, and we’ve been overdue for new music and a tour, possibly? “All of the things are happening. I can’t give up too much information or everyone’s gonna kill me, but I am dancing,” Duff teased. “Everything’s in motion. It’s exciting.” Hilary, if you’re reading this, please include all the Disney-era hits for whatever concert you’re planning. Thankfully, her fans will be by her side once the tunes are out, but in the meantime, they’ll be dressing up as her for Halloween.
