Sitcom legend to release memoir at 94: ‘It’s never too late’

Marla Gibbs has announced plans to release her memoir next month, using the occasion to deliver an encouraging message to fans about pursuing dreams at any age.

The 94-year-old actress revealed her book, “It’s Never Too Late: A Memoir,” will be published February 24. In a promotional video posted to Instagram, Gibbs offered words of inspiration to her followers.

“I’m here to tell you that as long as you’re breathing, child, and as long as you’re still on the planet, it’s never too late,” she said.

The memoir will trace her journey from her birth as Margaret Theresa Bradley in Chicago to her career in Hollywood, Parade noted. Gibbs said in her social media post that she is “telling the real story, about how I became the first African American woman to executive produce and star in her own show… and everything it took to get there.”

Known for her roles in “The Jeffersons” and “227,” Gibbs addressed her decision to adopt a stage name in the promotional video.

“I felt like Margaret was too mouthy. I wanted something that flowed. So, Marla gives this kind of flowed,” she stated.

Gibbs remains active in her career, with recent appearances in “The Upshaws,” “Will Trent,” and “Grey’s Anatomy.” The memoir is available for preorder on Amazon and her personal website.
