No. 2 Ohio State Cruises to 41-3 win over Bellarmine

COLUMBUS, Ohio — No. 2 Ohio State (7-0) earned a 41-3 win against visiting Bellarmine (1-2) Wednesday at the Covelli Center. The Buckeyes started strong with four wins by technical fall in the first five matches and never looked back. 

How it Happened

125 – (3) Nic Bouzakis (OSU) def. Damion Ryan (BU), TF, 19-4
In less than 30 seconds, Bouzakis scored the first takedown of the match for a 3-0 lead. Ryan escaped before another Bouzakis takedown to make it 6-1. After three minutes, Bouzakis led 10-2 after a late takedown and stalling point. An escape and Bouzakis takedown made it 14-3 at the end of the second. Another stalling call against Ryan along with a takedown and a point for riding time gave Bouzkakis a 19-4 win by technical fall.

133 – (2) Ben Davino (OSU) def. Shay Korhorn (BU), TF, 19-4
Davino wasted no time in earning a 19-4 technical fall in less than two minutes of the opening period.

141 – (1) Jesse Mendez (OSU) def. AJ Rallo (BU), TF, 24-7
Rallo scored first after a scramble for a 3-0 lead. A Mendez escape and takedown gave the Buckeyes a 4-3 advantage. Rallo tied it at 4-all with an escape to head to the second period. Another escape by Rallo led to a Mendez takedown and four-point near fall for an 11-5 lead for the Buckeyes. Mendez added another takedown to make it 14-6 Buckeyes after five minutes. Another pair of takedowns and a four-point nearfall ended the match for a win by technical fall, 24-7.

149 – (8) Ethan Stiles (OSU) def. Zac Cowan (BU), D, 12-8
Stiles opened the scoring with a takedown and added another for a 6-1 lead after the opening period. Stiles led 9-2 after the second. An escape by Stiles and a Cowan takedown made it 11-5 Buckeyes after another Stiles escape. Cowan added a takedown before a Stiles escape ended the scoring for a 12-8 win by decision for the Buckeyes. 

157 – (5) Brandon Cannon (OSU) def. Jeb Prechtel (BU), TF, 20-2
Cannon started with a quick takedown and two-point nearfall to jump out to a 5-1 lead after a Prechtel escape. Another two Cannon takedowns and two-point nearfall upped the lead to 13-2 after three minutes. A stalling call against Prechtel followed by a Cannon reversal and a four-point nearfall earned the Cannon win by technical fall, 20-2.  

165 – (10) Paddy Gallagher (OSU) def. Noah Hall (BU), TF, 19-4
Gallagher started the scoring with a takedown just shy of two minutes gone in the opening period. Gallagher added another late takedown with a four-point nearfall for a 10-1 advantage headed to the second. Two more takedowns early in the second made it 16-3 Buckeyes. Gallagher finished off the match with a takedown for a 19-4 win by technical fall. 

174 – (5) Carson Kharchla (OSU) def. Cael Miller (BU), TF, 19-4
Kharchla put together a three-takedown sequence for a 9-2 lead before ending the period with another for a 12-3 cushion after three minutes. With a pair of takedowns in the second, Kharchla got the win by technical fall, 19-4.

184 – Gavin Ricketts (BU) def. Cayaen Smith (OSU), TB-2, 3-2. 
There was no scoring after the opening three minutes. Smith built over a minute of riding time in the second before Ricketts was awarded a penalty point for stalling on OSU. Ricketts added an escape to lead 2-0 after the second period. Smith escaped to open the third and added a point for riding time to send the match to sudden victory tied 2-all. Ricketts got the win, 3-2 after the second tiebreaker. 

197 – (14) Luke Geog (OSU) def. Andrew Liber (BU), D, 5-3
Geog led 3-1 after the opening period. The lead went to 4-1 after Liber was called for stalling. Geog was then called for stalling to make it 4-2 Buckeyes. Another stalling on Liber made it 5-2 Geog. With a point for riding time for Liber, Geog got the win by decision, 5-3. 

HWT – (3) Nick Feldman (R-Jr.) def. Daulton Mayer (BU), TF, 17-1
Feldman struck first with a takedown and four-point nearfall for a 7-0 lead. He added another three-point nearfall to make it 10-0. Mayer earned an escape but Feldman quickly countered with a takedown to end the period leading 13-1. Feldman then got the win by technical fall, 17-1.
