Ryan Reynolds urged to talk to Premier League legend who he’d have ‘no regrets’ signing

Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac have been urged to consider appointing Freddie Ljungberg if they are to realise their ambition of guiding Wrexham into the Premier League.

The North Wales club have endured a testing introduction to Championship football this campaign and find themselves languishing in 19th position, just two points and three places clear of the drop zone. Boss Phil Parkinson retains the confidence of the club’s hierarchy following his remarkable achievement of securing three successive promotions in recent seasons.

Wrexham director Shaun Harvey recently reaffirmed that the former Sunderland manager enjoys the full support of board members in the face of reports that his position could be at risk. However, the Red Dragons have so far failed to find their rhythm after investing £33million on 13 new signings during the summer transfer window.

Arsenal legend Ljungberg, who has held coaching roles with the Gunners and Wolfsburg following his retirement from professional football in August 2012, has now been touted as the ideal candidate to take Wrexham into the top flight should they opt to move on from Parkinson.

The suggestion has been put forward by Ljungberg’s former Arsenal and Sweden colleague Anders Limpar, who believes the 48-year-old possesses the necessary qualities to thrive with the Hollywood-backed outfit.

“Should Ryan Reynolds speak to Freddie Ljungberg about the Wrexham job in the future? Yes, why not,” he told Hajper. “Freddie Ljungberg is a good communicator. I think he’s ready to step in to take on another team. He has the right personality.

“Unfortunately he got the sack from Wolfsburg and then suddenly he just stopped, but that’s not fair on Freddie because when he talks about football, he is a very clever guy and he can see the systems as an analyst as well. For whoever gives him another chance, he will be an unbelievable manager.

“In general, if you ask a Swedish person about Wrexham they don’t have a clue, but for those of us who are following the Premier League and the Championship, for sure they are known as a small club who are trying to get up the leagues.

“We have Melburg, Freddie and Henrik Larsson. All three are potentially very good managers. It was between Graham Potter and Olof Melburg for the Swedish job. So give them a chance. There would be no regrets for the club.”

Ljungberg enjoyed a short spell as caretaker manager of Arsenal in 2019 after Unai Emery’s exit and prior to Mikel Arteta taking the reins. He departed the club the following year but remains highly respected for his contributions to the Gunners’ academy sides.

Since then, he has taken charge of the N5 FC side in the Baller League, working alongside Jens Lehmann and Robert Pires. Wrexham’s next Championship fixture will see them welcome Oxford United on Wednesday evening as they pursue their first home victory of the campaign.

A demanding away trip to Middlesbrough, who currently sit second in the table, awaits on Saturday in what may prove a pivotal spell for Parkinson before the next international break in November.
