Rapper Poorstacy has died at 26 following an occurrence at a Florida hotel, PEOPLE reported.
The musician, whose real name is Carlito Milfort Jr., died on Saturday, Nov. 29 after an “incident” that occurred in Boca Raton, Fla., the Boca Raton Police Department told PEOPLE.
Poorstacy was brought to a nearby hospital after police were called to a Boca Raton hotel on Saturday, Billboard reported. He had reportedly been staying at the hotel for about 10 days prior to his death.
The outlet noted that fans have suggested the rapper died by suicide, but his cause of death has not been confirmed. No further details about Poorstacy’s death have been revealed.
Travis Barker — who worked with Poorstacy on songs including 2020 tracks “Choose Life” and “Nothing Left” — paid tribute to the late rapper on his social media.
“Rest in peace you’ll never be forgotten,” the Blink-182 drummer wrote on his Instagram story alongside a broken heart emoji and a video of them performing Poorstacy’s 2020 song “Hills Have Eyes,” PEOPLE reported.
Barker also posted a clip of their track “Choose Life.”
Poorstacy was known for his genre-bending sound that incorporated punk rock, hip-hop, heavy metal and emo. His single “Darkest Night” appeared on the 2020 “Bill & Ted Face the Music” movie soundtrack. The project recieved a Grammy Award nomination the following year.
Bring Me the Horizon frontman Oli Sykes, who also frequently worked with Poorstacy, paid tribute to his close friend on his Instagram story by sharing a photo of the pair and writing, “R.I.P” with a black heart emoji, according to PEOPLE.
Music publication Revolver said in a 2021 interview with Poorstacy that the “mad man who’s known to go so hard at his shows” spent the first 10 years of his life between Brooklyn and Queens before his family relocated to the Sunshine State for financial reasons.
“I was just really violent,” he confessed. “I would act out irrationally. I would either hurt myself for attention or I would hurt somebody else for attention.”
Poorstacy was charged with battery and neglect of a child in 2023, but that case was eventually dropped, according to Complex. The Boca Post reported he was arrested in May 2022 for missing a court date associated with various traffic issues.
