Real, who have drawn their last two league outings, are also two points adrift of Barcelona but a win tonight will take them to the summit.
Xabi Alonso’s side have lost just once in La Liga this term and have won each of their last four against Girona without conceding.
Atletico Madrid are also an interested party in fourth with just a three-point gap to the defending champions.
