Ohio State adds linebacker out of transfer portal from Big Ten program

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Former Wisconsin linebacker Christian Alliegro has committed to Ohio State, per a report from ESPN on Thursday morning.
The Buckeyes beat out Texas to land the talented defender.
The 6-foot-4, 245 pound linebacker had 49 tackles and 4 sacks last year for the Badgers. He was originally a member of the class of 2023.
He collected 49 tackles and four sacks this season.
The Connecticut native brings experience to a relatively young position group on Ohio State’s roster.
Sonny Styles exhausted his eligibility this season, and Arvell Reese is expected to be a top-10 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. As a result, Payton Pierce — Ohio State’s third linebacker in 2025 — is the only returning player at the position with more than 100 career snaps played.
Ohio State 2025 signees Riley Pettijohn and TJ Alford are expected to compete for bigger roles next season along with 2024 recruit Garrett Stover.
Alliegro can play as both an off-ball linebacker and as an edge rusher, and presents some versatility in what he can do in Columbus. For a defensive coordinator like Matt Patricia, that proved valuable in 2025.
