Strong storms leave thousands without power in Michiana

Storms moved through quickly on Monday but packed a punch with strong winds and heavy rain across the area.
The strong winds led to some widespread power outages. Strong winds blew tree limbs around some trees were knocked down.
About 15,000 people across Michiana lost power Monday afternoon.

Indiana Michigan Power is reporting about 10,000 people without power. Most of those are in St. Joseph County, including more than 4,000 in the South Bend – Mishawaka area.
There are also more than 2,000 customers who lost power in Berrien County. The worst areas were near Buchanan, St. Joseph and near the Van Buren County line.
NIPSCO is also reporting thousands of people without power. Most of those power outages are in LaPorte County and west.
LaPorte has about 900 without power. While the Wanatah area has about 650 without power. There are also outages in Michigan City, Goshen and Shipshewana.
There is no word on when the outages will all be restored.
Midwest Energy is also dealing with more than 1,400 people without power; most are in the Niles and Three Rivers areas.
Duke Energy is not reporting any outages in the Kosciusko County area.
