Rep. Lauren Boebert Claps Back at President Donald Trump While Refusing to Abandon Thomas Massie
Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., on Saturday stood her ground following a public criticism from President Donald Trump over her decision to campaign for fellow Republican Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky.
“Yes, I saw the President’s post. No, I’m not mad or offended,” Boebert said in a statement on social media. “I knew the risks when I agreed to stand by my friend Thomas Massie. I was, and will be, America First, America Always, and MAGA. Onwards.”
Trump posted on Truth Social, directly naming Boebert and challenging a Republican to run against her in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District.
“Is anyone interested in running against Weak Minded Lauren Boebert in Colorado’s Fourth Congressional District?” Trump wrote, adding that Boebert had relocated from the 3rd District when her reelection prospects there dimmed, calling her “a carpetbagger, indeed.” He said that while he had previously endorsed Boebert, he would withdraw that endorsement and support a primary challenger “if the right person came along.”
The criticism came after Boebert decided to campaign for Massie, a libertarian Republican whom Trump called “the Worst ‘Republican’ Congressman in the History of our Country.” Massie had been at odds with the former president over various policies, including his foreign relations and certain spending programs.
Boebert’s decision sparked outrage among some of Trump’s supporters on social media, revealing divisions within the MAGA movement.
“You just stabbed President Trump in the back and the voters that put him there, [expletive]. You are not MAGA. [Expletive] all the way off,” one user commented. Another user wrote, “Good job. We can see what is coming next.”
However, others supported Boebert’s decision, describing it as principled.
“Stay strong, Queen,” a supporter said. “It’s awesome to see people who stand on principle no matter what the political consequences,” another wrote. “I like Boebert even more now.”
Boebert did not indicate that she would reverse her support for Massie.
