Power outages, downed trees reported in Columbia

COLUMBIA — Storms that moved through mid-Missouri on Monday morning brought heavy rain and wind and left some customers without power in Columbia.

The outages began in Columbia around 5:45 a.m., and trees falling onto power lines caused two of the larger outages.

Heavy rain brings the possibility of flooding, and the KOMU 8 First Alert Weather Team says never to walk, swim or drive through flooded areas. Water can be deeper than it appears and could hide debris, washed-out roads or hazards.

The KOMU 8 First Alert Weather Team has declared Monday a First Alert Weather Day due to the possibility of severe storms.

5:40 p.m.: Columbia power outages resolved

The city of Columbia’s power outage map shows all power outages have been resolved.

1:40 p.m.: Columbia power outages update

There are 107 customers without power in Columbia, according to the city of Columbia power outage map.

11:15 a.m.: Columbia power outages update

The city of Columbia power outage map is now showing only 140 customers are without power in Columbia.

10 a.m.: Tree down in Columbia’s East Campus neighborhood

Lines were down on Wilson Avenue around a fallen tree around 10 a.m. Monday.

7:45 a.m.: Some power outages restored in Columbia

The city of Columbia power outage map showed nearly 1,700 customers were affected by power outages around 7:45 a.m. Monday. As many as 3,700 customers were without power at a time earlier Monday morning, according to the map.

6:45 a.m.: Trees down in Columbia

The Boone County emergency manager reported several trees down in Columbia and Boone County around 6:30 a.m. Monday.

Fallen trees or tree limbs were partially blocking traffic on Rock Quarry Road and in the area of Route K and Scott Boulevard southwest of Columbia around 6:30 a.m., according to the Boone County emergency manager.



A firetruck blocks traffic around 6:45 a.m. Monday in the 2600 block of West Broadway in Columbia ahead of a tree branch that fell onto power lines.



Boone County Joint Communications sent an alert around 7 a.m. reporting a tree in the roadway on Stadium Boulevard at Forum Boulevard.

6:22 a.m.: Power outages reported in Columbia

Crews are responding to power outages in the city of Columbia. The outages are primarily affecting the south and west portions of the city, according to the city of Columbia power outage map.

The map shows as many as 3,600 customers were affected by power incidents on Monday morning as storms bringing heavy rain and high winds moved through the city.

The outages began around 5:45 a.m., and estimated restoration times were not listed on the map as of 6:15 a.m. Columbia Water and Light said on social media that trees falling onto power lines caused two of the larger outages. The city outage map showed seven total incidents.

Because of the storms in the area, there are about 3,600 customers without power across southern Columbia. Two of the larger outages were caused by trees falling on the lines. Crews are working to get those cleaned up.We appreciate your patience as crews address these issues.

The Boone Electric Cooperative power outage map showed several outages Monday morning.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Boone County, Audrain County and Callaway County at 6:18 a.m., which was in effect until 7 a.m.
