Flyers’ playoff injury list is brutal — here’s who was hurt

The Philadelphia Flyers are finally able to participate in the time-honored tradition of a playoff team unveiling an impossibly long list of injuries that they suffered during their playoff run. Finally, they’re part of the club.
On Wednesday morning, an hour or so before general manager Danny Briere is scheduled to speak with the media and talk all about the objectively successful season that the Flyers were able to have, the Flyers were able to release the full list of injuries and it’s a big and long one that features a couple of surprises.
As per the Flyers themselves, here’s all the players that suffered injuries during the playoffs and what their injuries are:
Emil Andrae: Fractured wrist – requires surgery
Alex Bump: MCL sprain
Noah Cates: Fractured Foot – No surgery required
Christian Dvorak: Fractured rib; separated shoulder
Nikita Grebenkin: Upper body injury
Garnet Hathaway: Fractured fibula
Travis Konecny: Fractured rib; nasal fracture
Owen Tippett: Internal bleeding; Core muscle injury
Cam York: Fractured rib
Trevor Zegras: Elbow ligament sprain
Woof.
Some players we knew were hurt — Nikita Grebenkin did not appear in a playoff game and has been out since March 21, Noah Cates missed the end of the second round, Owen Tippett released his own letter to fans talking about his injuries, and there were rumors of Cam York’s fractured rib. But that only makes up for four of the 10 players that were dealing with something this postseason.
Emil Andrae apparently fractured his wrist and it now requires surgery in the offseason. The young blueliner didn’t play in Game 4 as he made way for the even younger Oliver Bonk, but that was more due to performance and wanting to get a different look, than a player having literally a fractured wrist.
Alex Bump did not look like he had an MCL sprain as he appeared to be one of the more impactful forwards throughout the playoffs. And even with Christian Dvorak, we all knew he was banged up since he regularly missed practices and morning skates, but to be dealing with a fractured rib and a separated shoulder while in the playoffs is nuts. Something that surely got a lot of pats on the back from his teammates and coaches, but that must have been an agonizing experience for the veteran center.
Garnet Hathaway dealing with a fractured fibula — literally having a broken bone in your shin — while playing hockey feels dangerous and stupid but just something that those fans that want to pound your chest and call a player a warrior. (This writer is sometimes one of those fans.)
Travis Konecny looked like he was dealing with something and while he said it was really nothing during his exit interview, it certainly seems like something. Some fans were concerned that he was just putting in a mediocre postseason performance, but now seeing that he was dealing with a fractured rib and a busted-up nose bone, we can excuse some of those games.
And even something that doesn’t feel massive like a broken bone, like Trevor Zegras’s elbow ligament sprain, must have been abysmal to go through the playoffs with. Something nagging at you that certainly affected his ability to get shots off or generate any kind of offense at all — it’s just not great.
Hopefully all of these Flyers can fully recover by training camp and we can start talking about another playoffs and another laundry list of injuries that might come out of it.
Honestly, we’re just thankful to not see Sean Couturier’s and Rasmus Ristolainen’s name on the list.
