Bruce Campbell Says Cancer Diagnosis “Doesn’t Change Anything” With Latest Film: “The Priority Is This Movie”

Following his recent cancer diagnosis, Bruce Campbell is committed to promoting his latest movie.
The horror movie icon, who wrote, directed and stars in Ernie & Emma, explained that his “priority is this movie” despite recently announcing that he’s been diagnosed with a “treatable” but not “cureable” type of cancer.
“It doesn’t change anything for me,” he told USA Today. “It makes you prioritize 100 percent, and for me, the priority is this movie.”
In Ernie & Emma, Campbell plays a widowed pear salesman who travels to scatter his wife’s ashes, while replaying memories of their marriage along the way.
Campbell added of the film, which he produced with wife Ida Gearon, “My wife and I have never made a movie together before, and this is the most exciting thing ever. We finally got to do something that has no outside influence. We made it in our own little bubble.”
Earlier this month, Campbell revealed his cancer diagnosis as he explained that work will have “to take [a] back seat to treatment,” adding, “There are several cons this year summer [sic] that I have to cancel. Big regrets on my part. Treatment needs and professional obligations don’t always go hand-in-hand.
“That’s about it. I’m not trying to enlist sympathy—or advice—I just want to get ahead of this information in case false information gets out (which it will),” said Campbell. “Fear not, I am a tough old son-of-a-bitch and I have great support, so I expect to be around a while. As always, you’re the greatest fans in the world and I hope to see you soon!”
