Returning spy thriller with Richard Madden and Lesley Manville unveils “action-packed” trailer

Prime Video has released an “action-packed” trailer for season 2 of Citadel, as the star-studded spy series featuring Richard Madden, Priyanka Chopra, Stanley Tucci and Lesley Manville returns for more episodes in just a few weeks.

First streamed in 2023, the series counts Avengers: Doomsday directors Joe and Anthony Russo among its executive producers.

Citadel follows Mason and Nadia, two former spies for the titular elite agency played by Madden and Chopra. When we meet them in season 1, both their memories had been wiped after an ambush that took place eight years prior. As they’re living under new names, they are roped back into action by Citadel leader, Orlick (Tucci).

In season 2, set for a 6 May release, the trio of spies reunite after a new threat emerges.

With almost all of Citadel agents disappeared courtesy of Manticore, Orlick has to put together a skilled team to eliminate a new danger. Their target is the creator of a technology capable of coopting anyone’s mind and turning them into an assassin.

Orlick teams up with Hutch, played by Jack Reynor (Midsommar, Lee Cronin’s The Mummy), his partner Celine (Lina El Arabi) and, of course, his two best agents, Mason and Nadia.

The two are now at odds with each other after Mason was revealed to have betrayed Citadel at the end of season 1, though he was manipulated into it by his mother, Manticore agent Dahlia Archer (Lesley Manville).

As Nadia argues it’s “impossible” to trust Mason, Orlick simply replies: “If Mason Kane is good at one thing, it’s killing people.”

And it looks like the remaining member of Citadel are going to need to eliminate quite a few enemies this season, both old and new. As a mysterious man is behind the new threatening tech, Archer also returns after faking her death in the previous instalment.

Also back this season is Ashleigh Cummings alongside Citadel newcomers Matt Berry (What We Do In The Shadows), Merle Dandridge, Gabriel Leone, and Rayna Vallandingham.

All seven episodes of Citadel season 2 are released on 6 May on Prime Video. Season 1 is available on the same platform now.
