Chiefs’ Rashee Rice had clean-up surgery on knee, sidelined ‘2 months’

After Dallas County court documents were shared on Tuesday, revealing an immediate 30-day jail sentence for Kansas City Chiefs’ wide receiver Rashee Rice due to a violation of his probation, another report about Rice indicates he may not have been on the field for OTAs and mini-camp regardless.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Rice underwent clean-up surgery on his right knee a week ago, which is expected to keep him off the field for two months. The procedure’s purpose was to remove loose debris that was causing inflammation. It’s the same knee that was severely injured in the 2024 season.
Schefter reports that Rice was unaware of his upcoming jail sentence at the time of the procedure. Now, instead of constant rehabilitation ahead of the Chiefs’ training camp, he will be in jail for the next 30 days without access to an athletic training staff or the medicine he would otherwise have.
With that in mind, the two-month timeline could vary, but it sets him up to potentially return to the field in training camp, which starts at an undetermined time in late July.
However, he could also be a candidate to be placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, especially because the Chiefs will not have access to examine his knee for the next month.
