The Met Office has issued an amber warning for all of Sussex, with a rare red warning covering part of the county.
The heatwave will likely see record-breaking June temperatures and very high humidity, weather forecasters have said.

How hot Brighton will get this week amid Met Office warning
The weather in Brighton is forecast to peak at 36C this week, according to the Met Office.
Thursday (June 25) is due to be the warmest day of the week.
It comes as the Met Office has already issued a Red Extreme Heat Warning for Wednesday and Thursday for part of Sussex, with June’s all-time daily record temperature forecast in the UK set to be broken.
The red warning joins the existing amber warnings, which cover all of Sussex and stretch from yesterday (June 22) through to the end of Thursday (June 25).
Overnight temperatures will also be very high, with widespread Tropical Nights, where the temperature does not drop below 20C.
Elsewhere in Sussex, other places will rise to even warmer temperatures than Brighton.
In Haywards Heath and Crawley, it will peak at 37C.
Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Mark Sidaway said: “Red warnings are reserved for the most severe events and we’re expecting severe and significant impacts from this heatwave, with health impacts likely for many, even beyond those who are normally more vulnerable to the heat.
“The last time the UK recorded temperatures this high was in July 2022, but on this occasion the heat is expected to be accompanied by high humidity.
“As well as very high daytime temperatures, there will be consecutive nights where temperatures do not drop below 20°C, which is called a Tropical Night.
“This will make it very hard for people to recover from the daytime heat, exacerbating the heat stress impacts.”
The UK Health Security Agency has also issued a series of Heat Health Alerts, which specifically highlight the potential health and social care impacts.
Maximum temperature in Brighton each day during the heatwave
Here is the maximum temperature that Brighton will experience during the heatwave this week:
- Tuesday (June 23) – 33C
- Wednesday (June 24) – 25C
- Thursday (June 25) – 36C

Temperatures will then cool, with Friday (June 26) hitting a high of 25C, and Saturday (June 27) and Sunday (June 28) being 24C and 23C respectively.
The wider forecast for London & South East England says that Tuesday will be a “dry, hazy day with plenty of sunshine and widely hot temperatures”, followed by a “warm and humid night”.

The outlook for Wednesday to Friday reads: “Temperatures climbing further, potentially becoming very hot by day, with very warm intervening nights.
“Mainly fine with further sunshine, however, this perhaps eventually triggering thunderstorms later Thursday and into Friday.”
No thunderstorms are forecast for the Brighton area.
