CROMWELL, Conn. (WFSB) – The final round of the Travelers Championship resumed around 7:20 p.m. after a delay for “electricity in the air” and rain, according to PGA officials.
The weather horn paused the game around 6 p.m.
Both players and fans were evacuated off the course during a downpour of rain. However, there were still golfers with several holes left to play.
Scottie Scheffler was in the lead with -21 as a one shot lead over Collin Morikawa at the time of delay.
Early morning start
What started as a foggy morning in Cromwell turned into a clear day for the final round of the tournament.
Large crowds came in for the final round, with traffic the biggest challenge for fans. Lines of cars stretched for miles to get through the entrance over the weekend.
Best spots on the course
Officials said holes 15, 16 and 17 were among the best spots to watch, as those holes are expected to be where the championship is decided.
Fans bringing families could visit the Fan Zone near holes 17 and 18, which featured games, giveaways and activities for all ages.
Fans show up for final round
Scottie Scheffler was a fan favorite heading into the final round.
“Definitely want to hope for Scottie to win the championship,” said Ben Wentworth, a young fan at the tournament.
Jeff Dohse, a spectator who flew up from Florida, said he made the trip for more than just the golf.
“In the last year, my daughter lives up here so I said let’s do it again and have a late father’s day weekend,” Dohse said.
Dohse was not the only one making it a family affair. Ben Wentworth attended the tournament with his father, Joe.
“It gives me a chance to spend time with my son, just to stay outdoors on a beautiful day like today,” Joe Wentworth said.
Young fan Lewis Baier also came out to watch, saying Scheffler inspires him to work on his own game.
The Travelers Championship is the only annual PGA Tour stop in New England.
