History made: 2026 World Cup breaks attendance record
With 3,605,357 fans, the tournament surpassed the previous attendance record set during the FIFA World Cup USA 1994.
The World Cup round of 32 reached its midpoint on Wednesday with three more matches.
In Seattle, Belgium − the Group G winner − took on Senegal, which finished third in Group I. According to the latest FIFA rankings, Belgium sits at No. 10 in the world, while Senegal is No. 18.
There were more than a few interested fans watching this match − which Belgium won 3-2 − because of the potential implications in the next round. Belgium will have the benefit of playing its next match on the same field five days later, possibly against one of the World Cup host nations.
Who will Belgium play in round of 16?
Belgium won’t have to wait long to find out its opponent. Later Wednesday night, the United States will play Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the winner of that match facing Belgium Monday, July 6, in Seattle.
