Scattered storm chances return with the chance for isolated heavy downpours through early next week

Thursday’s forecast:

Our next weather pattern change occurs Thursday. The area of high pressure that has kept temperatures in the upper-90s the past four days has moved west. This has created a weakness in the atmosphere and with our southerly winds, we’re getting a more active sea breeze thunderstorm weather pattern.

This pattern will increase the humidity and cloud cover which will lower temperatures by a few degrees. Scattered storms will be possible through the mid-evening. Most storms should stay on the weaker side but a couple of stronger, slow-moving storms could bring gusty winds and heavy rain which could result in isolated street flooding. A quick 1-2″ of rain will be possible with the strongest activity.

Friday’s forecast:

No big changes to the forecast through Saturday. Temperatures climb to the mid-90s with a 30% chance of afternoon thunderstorms.

Tracking the tropics:

August is the “real” start of the hurricane season. 93% of hurricanes form after August 3rd. However, this is not your typical hurricane season. With an incredibly strong El Nino the numbers will be kept way down this season. No storms are expected in the next 10 days and probably a little further than that. Wind shear in the Caribbean is the strongest it’s been since 1979. Oh, and there is some thick Saharan dust over the Atlantic. We’ll keep you posted on what’s expected for the later part of August.

10 Day Forecast:

Beginning Thursday, temperatures lower slightly and rain changes go up. Our best chance of widespread heavy rain and thunderstorms is Sunday and Monday.
