Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani, whose quick ascent forced his opponents to consolidate their efforts to defeat him, faces off against Republican Curtis Sliwa and Andrew M. Cuomo — the Democratic former governor who is running as an independent after he lost the primary to Mamdani.
Polls indicate that Mamdani maintains a lead in the race, but that advantage has narrowed in recent weeks as Cuomo has picked up voters following the endorsement of former mayor Eric Adams, who lost to Mamdani in June’s primary and later dropped out of the race.
