Syracuse injury updates for JJ Starling, Tyler Betsey for Monmouth game

Syracuse, N.Y. ― JJ Starling will return to the court when Syracuse hosts Monmouth on Tuesday night at the JMA Wireless.

Starling, a 6-4 senior, has been out since injuring his right leg in the early minutes of Syracuse’s regular-season opener against Binghamton on Nov. 3. He sat out the Orange’s wins over Delaware State and Drexel.

Starling led Syracuse in scoring at 17.8 points per game as a junior. He is the most experienced player on SU coach Adrian Autry’s roster.

Syracuse freshman Kiyan Anthony has filled in for Starling. Anthony started against both Delaware State and Drexel. He is averaging 17.3 points per game.

Meanwhile, Syracuse will be without forward Tyler Betsey. The 6-8 sophomore injured his right foot in the first half of the Orange’s game against Drexel on Saturday in Philadelphia.

Betsey, a transfer from Cincinnati, is averaging 7.3 points and 1.7 rebounds this season.
