Strictly Come Dancing fans were left with a complaint over the response to Lewis Cope’s latest performance after he was left telling his dance partner he was ‘sorry’.

The actor has been one of the strongest contenders in this year’s competition, having scored the first 40 of the series alongside his professional partner Katya Jones during the show’s annual Halloween special.

But Lewis seemingly suffered a wobble during the latest live show on Saturday night (December 6) as the BBC One dance show reached the crucial quarter-final stage.

While the competition was fierce, it was Musicals Week in the ballroom, meaning the five remaining couples were giving their performances their all while trying to have some fun before the series comes to its grand on on December 20.

As for Lewis, he and Katya eceived a mixed reception from the judges for his and Katya’s salsa to Dance At The Gym from West Side Story, for which they landed 35 points and were left joint second on the leaderboard alongside EastEnders actress Balvinder Sopal and Australian dancer Julian Caillon and internet star George Clarke and US partner Alexis Warr.

Following the performance, Lewis was faintly heard apologising to Katya, before they faced the judges’ comments. While Shirley Ballas told Lewis “it wasn’t your best dance, for me, by far” and Craig Revel Horwood agreed and said: “We have seen you dance better.” But in contrast Anton Du Beke said had an “incredible physicality” and added: “All in all… I rather liked it.”

But some were surprised to see Lewis’ scores, in comparison to the comments, as despite some differing feedback, he was still awarded strong eights and nines from the judges.

Flocking to social media, @clorscha said: “I’m sorry but the judges’ comments gotta start matching the scores bc that was ridiculously overscored based on the comments they got. I love this partnership, but it was simply not their night.2 @s_chambers2003 commented: “If anyone else got those comments, it’s 7s and 8s but Lewis gets 3 9s. Make it make sense.”

@lornacb_ echoed: “Barely giving bal criticism and giving her 9s, giving lewis lots of criticism and giving him 9s ? make it make sense #strictly.” @courttalksgym posted: “3 9s for Lewis ?? those comments did deffo not match the scores how’s Karen got less that’s insane #strictly.”

@crazymhwarrior shared: “They said it wasn’t Lewis best dance then scored him 9s. How does that make sense #strictly.” @MunchPudding added: “Well we loved Lewis and Katya! What was with the negative comments that didn’t match the scores #Strictly.”
