Eagles rule out Jalen Carter, Lane Johnson for Monday Night Football | Eagles at Chargers Injury Report

Saturday’s Injury Report

No surprise, but the Eagles will be without All-Pro linemen Jalen Carter and Lane Johnson on Monday night against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Eagles officially ruled both players out on Saturday.

Carter will miss his second game of the season due to injury. The 2024 All-Pro is out with injuries to both of his shoulders. He previously missed the October 9 game against the Giants with a heel injury.

“Got a lot of faith though in the guys that will be in,” Head Coach Nick Sirianni said on Saturday in his final press conference ahead of the prime-time clash. “We’ll see how it is today and we’ll go from there. But got a lot of faith in the guys in that defensive line group and we’ll see what happens.”

Carter has played 72 percent of the defensive snaps this season despite not playing against the Giants or in the season opener against Dallas. Moro Ojomo and Jordan Davis have each played more than 60 percent of the snaps. Byron Young is next in line, having been on the field for just a shade below a quarter of the snaps.

Rookie third-round pick Ty Robinson has been active for seven games, but has played just 35 total defensive snaps.

“I think just be able to show and prove myself to the organization and prove myself that I’m able to go out there and compete with the guys,” said Robinson of a potentially expanded role. “I’m just excited for whatever they’re willing to give me.”

The Eagles also have Ta’Quon Graham and Gabe Hall on the practice squad. Hall played in the season opener as well as the first matchup with the Giants.

According to Pro Football Focus, the Eagles have played with three defensive tackles on the field in base personnel 21.6 percent of the time this season.

Johnson will miss his third straight game with a foot injury. Sirianni provided an update on the six-time Pro Bowl right tackle on Saturday.

“He works his butt off in every aspect of his game that he does. He’s continuing to get better,” Sirianni said. “Not only does he work his [tail] off with the weight room, the film room, the practice field, that’s also – you can’t shut that off. It’s also going to be with his rehab process.”

Fred Johnson will start at right tackle in Lane Johnson’s absence.

Everyone else fully participated in Saturday’s practice. Safety Marcus Epps (shoulder) and tackle Myles Hinton (back) are questionable since they are on Injured Reserve. The Eagles have until Monday at 4 PM to activate them.

Pro Bowl left guard Landon Dickerson rested on Friday, but is good to go for Monday night. Wide receiver/punt returner Xavier Gipson missed the Black Friday game with a shoulder injury, but he returned to practice this week and has no game status designation. Outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips (concussion) also was a full participant in Saturday’s practice and has no game status designation.
