Ridley Scott’s 8-Part Sci-Fi Series Is Reborn as Perfect Weekend Binge

When Ridley Scott decides to say goodbye to directing and producing movies and TV shows, it will be one of the saddest days in Hollywood history. Scott has given more to the world of moviemaking, particularly through the sci-fi genre, than seems humanly possible. His career took flight all the way back in 1979 with the release of Alien, the smash-hit sci-fi epic that launched a franchise still ongoing to this day. Over the years, he also directed other sci-fi hits such as Blade Runner, and though he has passed off directorial control to other creatives for sequels and spin-offs, he remains heavily involved in the making of these projects. Scott has a movie he directed coming out later this year, and it will mark his return to the sci-fi genre after a few years away.
However, last year, Ridley Scott was heavily involved as a producer on Alien: Earth, the first TV show set in the Alien franchise launched by Scott in the late 1970s. Although Scott did not direct any episodes of Alien: Earth, writer and creator Noah Hawley has confirmed that he was involved with the show every step of the way. Alien: Earth tells a new story in the franchise, the first one set on Earth and not in space or a distant planet. The show stars Sydney Chandley as Wendy, Alex Lawther as Joe, Essie Davis as Dame Sylvia, Samuel Blenkin as Boy Kavalier, and Babou Ceesay as Morrow. All episodes of Alien: Earth are streaming on Hulu in America and Disney+ globally, where the show is still one of the top 10 most popular series in several countries at the time of writing.
Has ‘Alien: Earth’ Been Renewed for Season 2?
It took some time, but FX did renew Alien: Earth for a second season in November after it went off the air. It’s entirely unclear at this time when the second season of the show will be released, but the most likely timeline is sometime in 2027 or 2028. There are other projects in the franchise to be excited about, too, like another Alien movie in the works from Alien: Romulus director Fede Alvarez. Alvarez has confirmed that he is writing a sequel to the film, but that he and Ridley Scott will search for another director.
