For the second straight season, the Wisconsin men’s basketball team begins play in the Big Ten Conference before its big nonconference game with rival Marquette.
The Badgers hope the results will be different this year.
UW (5-2) faces Northwestern (5-2) at the Kohl Center in the league opener for both teams Wednesday, Dec. 3. Then, the Badgers will host the Golden Eagles on Saturday, Dec. 6.
Last season, the Badgers fell to Michigan, 67-64, before also losing to Marquette, 88-74, at Fiserv Forum. UW coach Greg Gard had won six straight Big Ten opening games before the Michigan loss last December.

Looking to start a new streak, the Badgers will rely on guards Nick Boyd and John Blackwell. The duo has combined to average 40 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Boyd has scored 20 or more points in four of his first seven games at Wisconsin after transferring from San Diego State.
