Elias Pettersson at the Centre of What Went Wrong Between Former Head Coach Rick Tocchet and the Canucks

As the Vancouver Canucks prepare to take on the Calgary Flames in their season opener on Thursday evening, new information has come to light between what really may have gone wrong between former head coach Rick Tocchet, and president of hockey operations Jim Rutherford.
Over the last few days, it’s been quite eventful and exciting to see which roster the Vancouver Canucks will be debuting in their season opener.
Clearly led by Elias Patterson and Captain Quinn Hughes, the Canucks will be showcasing some new faces, highlighted by 2025 15th overall pick Braeden Cootes, who was told he was owed his shots to star in the NHL.
New information claims Elias Pettersson was at the centre of the issues between Rick Tocchet and Jim Rutherford
It goes without saying that it was no secret the 2024-2025 season did not go to plan for the Nucks.
A year led by drama, injuries and a team that did not make the Stanley Cup playoffs, was all superseded by former head coach Rick Tocchet leaving to organization for the Philadelphia Flyers.l after just two seasons.
With that being said, some new information has come to light that indicates Elias Pettersson was at the centre of some of the issues between Tocchet and president of hockey operations Jim Rutherford.
According to Canucks Central, Tocchet and Rutherford did not see see eye to eye on Ioads of issues, especially the way Pettersson was used, awarded a massive contract extension.

I’m not sure they always saw eye to eye on Pettersson. Whether it was the extension or his usage.

No one is claiming that this is the reason he left for the Philadelphia Flyers after two seasons, but it did play a role and some of the drama that took place last season.
Now that the new season is upon us, the Canucks should look forward and forget about the past and focus on the task ahead, which is the 2025-26 season and Calgary Flames.
