Baltimore Police officer suspended after viral video shows attempt to run over civilian

BALTIMORE (WBFF) — A recent video surfaced on social media, capturing what appeared to be a Baltimore Police officer attempting to run over an individual.

Baltimore police released a statement saying they are reviewing a video “depicting concerning actions of a Baltimore Police Officer.”

The department has opened an investigation into this incident and is reviewing the officer’s body-worn camera.

Police noted that the officer has been suspended.

“What is seen in this video is not only disturbing, but alarming,” Police Commissioner Richard Worley said. “This is not how we expect our officers to behave and this incident does not reflect the values or standards of the Baltimore Police Department. Our department continues to work hard to rebuild trust and change the narrative of our department and our city. We remain committed to holding officers accountable for their actions and continuing the work of rebuilding trust with our community.”

Mayor Brandon Scott left a comment on this incident, stating:

“The contents of the video are deeply concerning. The officer in question has been suspended and the situation is under investigation. This investigation will be thorough, in accordance with all laws and regulations, to ensure proper accountability.”

State’s Attorney Ivan Bates also released the following statement:

“Our office is deeply concerned by the viral video showing a Baltimore Police Department officer appearing to drive his vehicle toward civilians. The Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City takes all allegations of police misconduct extremely seriously. Our Public Trust and Police Integrity Unit has opened an immediate investigation into this matter that will be thorough and comprehensive.”
