Butler County removes school board candidate from polling station

BUTLER COUNTY, Ohio (WXIX) – Butler County election officials removed a school board candidate from a polling location after discovering he was working at a site where his name appeared on the ballot.

Thomas Heisler, a candidate for Talawanda School Board, was asked to leave the polling station for violating Ohio Revised Code, according to Butler County Board of Elections Deputy Director Eric Corbin.

Corbin said the issue was resolved quickly once officials were notified.

“Once we became aware that there was a candidate who was working at the polling location where they were on the ballot, of course we reached out to the location supervisor and the candidate as soon as possible and asked him to leave, which he did without incident,” Corbin said.

“We resolved that issue as quickly as we could and clearly we have a hole in our process that we’re going to fill because this is clearly a preventable issue.”

Corbin said changes are coming to prevent similar incidents.
