Bayern keen on Konate

Bayern Munich are the latest side to show an interest in Liverpool central defender Ibrahima Konate.

Konate is out of contract in the summer, which has seen him linked with La Liga giants Real Madrid and others.

The Mirror reports: “Bayern Munich have entered the race to sign Ibrahima Konate from Liverpool with the French defender available to move on a free transfer next summer as things stand.

“The centre-half has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, who landed Trent Alexander-Arnold from The Reds when his contract expired in the summer. Kylian Mbappe is another high-profile signing who arrived at the Bernabeu on a free transfer in recent years – and Los Blancos now have Konate on their radar.

“However, Bild report that Bayern have been in contact with Konate’s entourage to express an interest in bringing him back to the Bundesliga, where he made his name with RB Leipzig before moving to Liverpool.”

Everton linked with Dju

The Liverpool Echo is reporting that Everton could make a move for FC Midtjylland striker Franculino Dju as David Moyes searches for a proven goalscorer.

Beto and Thierno Barry are yet to convince this season, leaving Moyes on the hunt for alternatives this January.

The paper explains: “FC Midtylland are braced for bids for an in-form striker Danish media are convinced is on Everton’s radar.

“Franculino Dju was first linked to The Blues in the summer and has since had a storming start to the season – hitting 13 goals in 13 games at the start of Denmark’s Superliga. He also has two goals in his side’s Europa League campaign.

“Reports from multiple Danish media outlets, from Bold to Campo, state Everton have had scouts in attendance at the 21-year-old’s games this season. They are said to have been joined by representatives from Bologna and other clubs from across Europe.”

Edwards set for Wolves talks

Rob Edwards is inching closer to the Wolverhampton Wanderers job after he was given permission to speak to the Premier League side.

Middlesbrough have put assistant coaches Adi Viveash and Harry Watling in charge in Edwards’ absence.

The Athletic states: “Middlesbrough have given head coach Rob Edwards permission to speak to Wolverhampton Wanderers over their vacant managerial role.

“The Championship side had knocked back an initial approach from Wolves for the 42-year-old, who spent four years of his playing career at Molineux and was interim coach in 2016.

“Wolves, however, renewed their attempts for the former Watford and Luton Town head coach, who did not take Middlesbrough’s training session on Friday and was stood down from managerial duties for the club’s Championship match against Birmingham City.

“Middlesbrough’s assistant coaches, Adi Viveash and Harry Watling, will lead the team in Edwards’ absence.”

Ashley linked with Wednesday takeover

Mike Ashley is believed to be one of around 10 credible prospective owners of Sheffield Wednesday.

The club’s administrators are on the hunt for someone who can buy the club from former owner Dejphon Chansiri.

The i Paper writes: “The first bids for Sheffield Wednesday may arrive as early as the end of this week, with at least 10 “very serious” potential owners having now registered their interest.

“The club’s administrators Begbies Traynor, who assumed control after former owner Dejphon Chansiri put the club into administration 10 days ago, have asked interested parties to supply proof of funding of £50m and sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) before being granted access to the data that reveals the state of the stricken Championship club’s finances.

“An initial 30 to 40 serious enquiries are expected to be whittled down to at least 10 who have been able to either provide proof of funding or are of such high net worth that they do not need to go through that process.

“Bidders have been required to sign a NDA that forbids them from setting out their plans for the Championship club until an agreement has been reached on the purchase of the club but The i Paper understands that former Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is one of those who has shown an interest.”
