The Ohio High School Athletic Association on Nov. 20 announced the pairings for the Nov. 28 state semifinals, and there could be a repeat central Ohio matchup in Division III.
The winner of the Region 11 championship game between Watterson and Steubenville will face off against London or Tipp City Tippecanoe, which meet for the Region 12 title. All 28 regional finals will be played at 7 p.m. Nov. 21.
Last season, Watterson beat London 56-21 and won the state championship a week later by defeating Toledo Central Catholic 19-14.
The other state semifinal matchups are:
- Division I: Region 2 vs. Region 4; Region 1 vs. Region 3
- Division II: Region 6 vs. Region 5; Region 8 vs. Region 7
- Division IV: Region 15 vs. Region 13; Region 14 vs. Region 16
- Division V: Region 19 vs. Region 17; Region 18 vs. Region 20
- Division VI: Region 23 vs. Region 21; Region 22 vs. Region 24
- Division VII: Region 26 vs. Region 28; Region 25 vs. Region 27
In addition to Watterson and London, six other central Ohio teams remain in the playoffs.
Pickerington Central and Olentangy Orange meet for the Region 3 title, with the winner facing Lakewood St. Edward or Mentor.
If Big Walnut defeats Massillon Washington in the Region 7 final, it would play Cincinnati Anderson or Trotwood-Madison. Anderson defeated Big Walnut 28-24 in a state semifinal last year.
North Union plays Lewistown Indian Lake in the Region 20 final, with the winner meeting Liberty Center or Genoa Area.
In Division VI, West Jefferson would face Kirtland or Sugarcreek Garaway if it beats North Robinson Colonel Crawford in Region 23.
In Division VII, Danville would play McDonald or Mogadore if it defeats Jeromesville Hillsdale in Region 27.
State semifinal games will be played at neutral sites, which will be announced this weekend. According to the OHSAA, the location of each school is the main factor in determining which regional champions meet in the state semifinals.
