Oscars Eligible Films 2025: International, Animated and Documentary

The Academy has unveiled its full list of eligible films for the 98th Oscars‘ animated, documentary and international feature categories, though some inclusions have yet to receive a qualifying release and must fulfill that before the end of the year to comply with Oscar rules.
The animated feature category includes 35 eligible titles for consideration. Those in the Academy’s animation branch are now eligible to vote to determine the five nominees. Other members from outside the branch have been invited to vote upon meeting a minimum viewing requirement.
Documentary feature drew the most eligible submissions among the three categories, with 201 titles in consideration. Members of the documentary branch will vote to determine a shortlist of 15 features, to be announced on Dec. 16. That smaller pool will then be whittled down to five nominees.
The international feature film category drew 86 eligible submissions from countries or regions around the world. The Academy defines an international feature film as a feature-length picture (more then 40 minutes) produced outside the U.S. with a predominantly non-English dialogue track. Academy members across all branches may vote in the preliminary round if they meet a minimum viewing requirement for the category. Similar to the documentary category, a shortlist of 15 titles will be announced on Dec. 16.
