OpenAI Introduces a New Shopping Assistant for ChatGPT

Microsoft-backed (MSFT) AI firm OpenAI (PC:OPAIQ) has introduced a new shopping assistant inside ChatGPT just in time for the busy holiday season. This tool is meant to help users research and decide on products by asking the chatbot to “Find the quietest cordless stick vacuum for a small apartment,” or “Help me choose between these three bikes,” for example. The assistant can ask follow-up questions, search the web, review sources, and even use your past chats to give better recommendations.

For simple questions like checking a price or confirming a product feature, ChatGPT will still give quick answers. But when more in-depth help is needed, such as comparing options or figuring out which trade-offs matter, the new shopping assistant will take a few extra minutes to provide a well-researched response. To use it, users just need to ask a shopping-related question, and the assistant will suggest starting a shopping session. Separately, users can also tap on “shopping research” from the (+) menu.
The feature is now rolling out for all logged-in ChatGPT users on Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans, with unlimited use during the holidays. OpenAI has also partnered with companies like Target (TGT) to help users find what they’re looking for. It is worth noting that this launch follows last week’s global rollout of group chats in ChatGPT, which shows that OpenAI is working hard to maintain its lead in the AI industry.
