Kalen Jackson, Carlie Irsay-Gordon and Casey Foyt speak to press since passing of father Jim Irsay at NFL mandatory mini camp at Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center.
Carlie Irsay-Gordon has had the same game-day routine for a dozen years, and now she’s famous?!
That’s what happened when she became the CEO of the Indianapolis Colts.
Irsay-Gordon has been wearing a headset on the sideline during games for more than a decade, preparing for a role that she assumed when her father, Jim Irsay, died in May.
“I think it’s funny,” Irsay-Gordon said in an interview on Fox59. “I asked the guys, I don’t want to be a distraction. I started doing it 12 years ago back when no one noticed, but now that I’ve got a title, it’s become more of an attraction. I’m just doing my job, it’s an endless list of things to learn.”
Irsay-Gordon has made an impression in her first season charge. She approved a mid-season trade for cornerback Sauce Gardner, and her sideline look inspired Halloween costumes.
The Colts (8-3) lead the AFC South and are seeking their first playoff berth since 2020. Irsay-Gordon’s father used to talk of winning multiple Super Bowls, but she is taking a measured approach.
“Dad used to say, ‘We’re gonna win three or five Super Bowls in a row,'” said Irsay-Gordon. “I think to me, we’re like, let’s put one foot on front of the other, but I think I’m just so proud of our team and all the things they’ve done. I think we’re committed to being one of those teams that’s perennially putting a winning product on the field.”
