Chiefs Coach Gets Honest About Patrick Mahomes Amid Team Struggles

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are facing a lot of adversity as they prepare to take on the Houston Texans in Week 14 NFL action.
After being defeated by the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day, the Chiefs’ path to the playoffs got much more difficult. Right now, they’re just 6-6 and are staring a very possible reality of missing the playoffs altogether.
Needless to say, this isn’t a situation that Kansas City is familiar with. It has been a long time since the Chiefs have struggled this badly. Mahomes and company need to turn things around quickly in order to work their way back into the picture.

All season long, Kansas City has looked off. Mahomes and the offense has not been firing on all cylinders and the defense has been good but not great. The Chiefs have simply not looked the part of a Super Bowl contender this year.
That being said, no one is willing to count Kansas City out just yet. As long as Mahomes is leading the way, the Chiefs are always going to be taken seriously. But, another loss could doom their hopes of turning things around.
Amid the team’s struggles, offensive coordinator Matt Nagy took some time to speak out honestly about Mahomes. He also pinpointed one major area of growth in the superstar quarterback this season, despite the disappointing season.
“We always talk about his feet. Mentally, this year we talked a little bit about more aggressiveness for all of us. So, I think he’s done a great job with that,” Nagy said.
“The process of ‘okay, it’s not there, check it down.’ He had three of those last week. That’s growth,” he said. “Make it second-and-three instead of second-and-10. That’s growth.”
On paper, Mahomes has had a solid all-around season. In 12 games played, he has completed 64.6 percent of his pass attempts for 3,238 yards, 22 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Mahomes has also picked up 348 yards and scored four touchdowns on the ground.

He hasn’t been happy with his performance due to the team losing football games. However, there is still time to right the ship.
In order for Kansas City to get back in the playoff conversation, it will need Mahomes to power the way. He’s more than capable of doing so, but the Chiefs need to rally behind him. It will be interesting to see if they can do that.
