Weekend events canceled due to inclement weather

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – Several weekend events have been canceled or postponed due to inclement weather concerns.
Roanoke County/Illuminights:
“Out of an abundance of caution, all Illuminights activities, including the Walk of Lights Trail have been canceled/closed on Friday, December 5, 2025 due to overnight weather and unsafe trail conditions. Staff are currently preparing the trail for operations to resume on Saturday, December 6.
Customers with tickets for Friday, December 5th have already been refunded. Please allow up to five business days for the refund to hit your card based on your financial institution’s practices.
For those looking to still enjoy the trail this year, there are still available time slots for the remaining operating days at Illuminights through Sunday, January 4. To book your new registration, please visit roanokecountyparks.com/5
Lexington Christmas Parade:
“After reviewing road conditions and consulting with the Lexington Police Department and the city’s Department of Public Works, MSL has made the difficult decision to cancel tonight’s Lexington Christmas Parade.”
National D-Day Memorial:
“Due to site conditions and for the safety of guests and guides, the National D-Day Memorial will remain closed on Saturday, December 6, 2025. The Flames of Memory event at the Memorial is rescheduled for December 12-14, 2025.
Visitors are encouraged to check the events calendar at dday.org and the Memorial’s social media platforms for updates before heading to the Memorial.”
Danville/Toy Drive:
Due to the weather, today’s (December 5) toy drive set for 4-6 p.m. at Walmart on Mt. Cross has been postponed to Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 4-6 p.m. Donations can be made any time at the Danville Police Department (1 Community Way) Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Salem Gingerbread Festival:
“I wanted to share an update regarding the Salem City Gingerbread Festival.
The city has announced that the event has been canceled for this year.
In light of the cancellation, En’Lair Academy of Dance & Acrobatics will be hosting a free Community Christmas Party tomorrow from 12–2 PM at our studio located at 154 W 4th St, Salem, VA 24153.
This event is open to everyone in the community.We will be offering free Santa photos for families, along with a special dance performance by our En’Lair dancers for everyone to enjoy.
We’re excited to provide a festive, family-friendly alternative and hope it can bring some holiday joy to the community.”
