Significant subway, GO closures in effect in GTA this weekend
It could be a tricky weekend for transit riders getting around Toronto.
The TTC says two significant subway closures will be in effect starting at midnight on Friday night until the resumption of regular service for the morning commute on Monday.
Over that time there will be no subway service for the “U” portion of Line 1 between Osgoode and College stations, including Union Station. King and Queen stations will be closed.
The closure means there will be no subway service to the Eaton Centre for the busy Christmas shopping weekend.
There will also be no subway service on Line 2 between Ossington Station and St. George Station.
The TTC says the weekend closure is needed in order to carry out track work on the line. Shuttle buses will be running to replace regular service.
GO Transit closure also in effect
Go Transit users on the Lakeshore West line will also need to plan around a weekend closure. There will be no service on the line between Aldershot GO Station and Union Station due to construction.
GO buses will be running to replace some train service, stopping at West Harbour, Aldershot, Burlington, Oakville and Clarkson GO stations.
However, there will be no GO Transit service at Appleby, Bronte, Port Credit, Long Branch, Mimico or Exhibition GO.
Metrolinx says GO buses will also run between West Harbour and Aldershot GO to Bramalea GO, where customers can connect with eastbound Kitchener line trains to Union Station.
Some late-night service adjustments are also in place on the line Friday night.
Riders are being advised to check schedules and plan ahead.
