Chris Davies says Birmingham City are looking to strengthen ‘a few key positions’ in the January transfer window – and movement in central defence is possible.
Blues are in the play-off shake-up after 20 games, despite their struggles away from home, and Davies wants the club to be aggressive in January.
The squad is well stocked in numbers but Blues could lose some of their loan players and the future of striker Lyndon Dykes is up in the air, meaning there will be opportunities for Davies to bring in fresh faces.
“We’re looking at a few key positions going into January,” Davies says. “We want to come out of that window stronger.
“This new Birmingham, as such, has had a look at the Championship now and seen where we sit in relation to the other teams and without giving too much away, I think there’s some key positions we need to look at and are looking at.
“There are a lot of conversations going on around how we can get better and come out stronger within that window.”
Blues have had issues in central defence this season and captain Christoph Klarer has had three different partners.
Phil Neumann has been used most prominently after Jack Robinson’s two red cards and Eiran Cashin’s struggles against Sheffield Wednesday.
It is thought Cashin will return to Brighton in January and seek more regular football elsewhere. Davies has suggested Cashin’s possible exit would allow Blues to sign another defender.
He added: “A lot will depend on Cashin, he hasn’t played as much and we want to be fair to the players, especially if they are loan players and they are not getting the game time.
“But as I’ve said to him, let’s see. He came on and contributed the other night (QPR) and it doesn’t take long to get back in the team again so we’ll see where we are come January.”
