Whataburger closing Auburn, Tuscaloosa locations

College students, take a deep breath: Texas-based Whataburger is announcing plans to close two of its Alabama locations – in Tuscaloosa and Auburn.
The burger chain, which operates in 17 states, said that a regular business review has resulted in the decision to close the restaurants.
In a statement, a Whataburger spokesperson said the company will be closing the downtown Auburn location, and one of the three Tuscaloosa locations, at 1130 University Blvd.
The Tuscaloosa location opened in 2023. Auburn’s has been open since 2021.
“Team members at these locations are supported and have been given the option to transfer to nearby locations,” the spokesperson said. “Specifically, the Auburn employees have been given the option to transfer to the Opelika location and the Tuscaloosa employees offered to transfer to the other two locations in that city.”
“This decision helps focus our efforts where we can make the biggest impact, ensuring our Guests continue to enjoy the high-quality, delicious food and genuine hospitality they’ve come to expect from Whataburger,” the spokesperson said.
